Coaching Staff

 

Brian Russo  (Head Coach)

 

This is the first season as the Head Coach of the Woodbridge HS Football Program for Coach Russo.  His career record through 2003 is 8-3.  6-2 in the regular season, 1-1 in the NJSIAA Playoffs, and 1-0 against the Colonia Patriots.

 

In 2003, he was given the Head Coaches job, and guided the WHS Football Program to an overall 8-3 record, a return to the NJSIAA, North Jersey 2 – Group IV Playoff, advancing to the Semi-Finals before losing to the eventual State Champions, Piscataway Chiefs.  A 2nd place finish with a 6-2 record in the Greater Middlesex Conference – Red Division.  Guided (RB) Keith Zalasar and (UT) Ryan Mozolic to 1st Team All Area, (OL) Ken Siano, (DE) Elliot Bernard and (DB) DJ Pryor to 2nd Team All Area.  Defeated cross-town rivals, the Colonia Patriots, 17-00.

 

In 2002, he was assigned as the Assistant Defensive Coordinator, posting a 4-6 record.  Defeated cross-town rivals, the Colonia Patriots, 27-22.

 

In 2001, he was assigned as the Running Back and D-Line Coach, guiding the team to a Central Jersey, Group IV Playoff appearance, and guiding Defensive Lineman A. Tremarco and C. Englebrecht to All County Honors.  Defeated cross-town rivals, the Colonia Patriots, 35-13.

 

From 2001 through present, Coach Russo has also coordinated the Off Season Strength and Conditioning Program.

 

In his High School playing days, he was a member of the Woodbridge HS Barrons, 1993 State Championship Team.  The Team went 9-2 that season.  He was a Fullback and Middle Linebacker, starting in 2 games.

 

In the 1994 season, the Barrons went 5-3-1.  Russo continued in his roll as Fullback and Middle Linebacker, leading the Team in tackles and earning the award of Defensive Player of the Year, by the Coaching Staff.

 

In his Senior year 1995, the Team went 7-2.  As a Fullback, he provided some powerful blocking for Kyle Johnson (Syracuse University), as well as recording 600 yards on 100 carries, resulting in 10 TD's.  He was also awarded an All County status as a Middle Linebacker by the Star-Ledger.

 

In addition to his football talents, he was the 1996 Region 5 Champion, District 19 Champion (26-3), and Top 12 Qualifier in NJ in the sport of Wrestling.

 

From 1996 through 2000, Russo attended Wagner College,  Division 1-AA.  While there he earned a BS in Elementary Education, and a MS in Special Education.

 

He also played football!  He was a two time Team Captain.  In 1999 he was a First Team All NEC / Lutheran Brotherhood All American, and an Academic All American from 1998 through 2000!

 

Currently, Coach Russo resides in the Sewaren section of Woodbridge Township with his wife, Heather.

 

 

Al Reinoso  (Defensive Coordinator)

 

This is the fifth season for Coach Reinoso with the WHS Barrons Program, seventh overall season in Football.  His coaching assignments with WHS have run the course from Freshmen Coach through each HS level to his current job as D-Coordinator.

 

In addition to Football coaching, he has ten seasons coaching Lacrosse and Wrestling in his resume.  He currently coaches Lacrosse at Westfield HS and Wrestling at Rahway HS, and has coached both sports at the collegiate level.

 

Reinoso played Varsity Football at Seton Hall Prep for three seasons, and one season for cross town rival, Colonia HS.  He performed as a Wide Receiver, Linebacker and Defensive Back.  He graduated in 1982.

 

He attended Hofstra University for one year and then transferred to Montclair State University.  While there, Reinoso played Lacrosse for four seasons at the varsity level.  He graduated in 1988.

 

Currently, Coach Reinoso resides in the City of Rahway with his wife, Patricia.  Reinoso has coaching in his blood and marriage!  His wife is the Head Coach of the Rahway HS Track and Field (Cross-Country, Winter and Spring) Programs.  His Brother, Anthony, is the Head Coach of the Rahway HS Wrestling Program, as well as an Assistant Coach of their Football and Track Programs.  His Dad, Al Sr., is a former HS Football Head Coach, and Seton Hall University Wrestling Coach for 25 years!

 

 

Tom Fennessey  (Offensive Coordinator) 

 

This is the ninth season for Coach Fennessey with the WHS Barrons Program, and his seventeenth season overall.  Previously, he spent six seasons at Port Richmond HS, S.I.N.Y from 1972 through 1975 and 1978 through 1980.  He has also coached two seasons at cross town rival Colonia HS, from 1976 through 1977.

 

His area of expertise is Quarterbacks and Defensive Backs, and he will assist Coach Russo with the Offensive Strategies.

 

Fennessey attended New Dorp HS, S.I.N.Y from 1959 through 1962, where he played Varsity Football for four years, and four years of Baseball.

 

He continued his Football career at Wagner College from 1965 through 1966, and one season of Baseball.

 

Currently, Coach Fennessey resides in the Township of Edison with his wife, Betsy.  He has a son and a daughter.  He has stated he is looking forward with enthusiasm, to coaching with men he coached as players at WHS.

 

 

John Moyer  (Special Teams Coordinator, Offensive Line / Defensive Line Coach)

 

This is the fifth season for Coach Moyer with the WHS Barrons Program.  Previously, he spent two years at Monroe HS and one year at JFK HS (Iselin, NJ).

 

His area of expertise is the "Kicking Game", O-Line and D-Line.

 

In 1995, he coached then, FB and MLB Brian Russo, as well as (in his words) "Stud Tailback", Kyle Johnson (Syracuse University).

 

Moyer won three letters as a varsity Football Player for JFK HS (Iselin, NJ).  He was an Offensive and Defensive Lineman, and a Place-kicker.  In 1989, he was named the Team Captain and was awarded All County status as a Place-kicker.

 

He attended Ramapo College for two years, and was awarded All NJAC as a Place-kicker.  In 1990, they were the ECAC Bowl Champs.

 

He also attended William Paterson College and played for two years.

 

Currently, Coach Moyer resides in the Iselin section of Woodbridge Township with his wife, Amy and their son.  The family will be expanding in February 2004, as they are expecting their second child!  Best of Luck!

 

 

Patrick Walsh  (Linebackers / Tight-Ends)

 

This is the first season for Coach Walsh with the WHS Barrons Program.  Previously, he spent three years coaching at cross town JFK HS (Iselin, NJ).

 

His area of expertise is Middle Linebacker and Tight End.

 

In addition to his football coaching duties, Walsh is the WHS Wrestling Coach, bringing home the White Division Championship each of the past three years, including a District Championship.

 

Walsh was a three year starter at Sayreville War Memorial HS, with a 24-6 career record. In 1995, he was named Team Captain.  He played the positions of Fullback and Middle Linebacker.

 

After HS , he attended Montclair State University.  While there he was the starting Fullback in 2000, as the MSU Team won the NJAC Title.

 

Currently, Coach Walsh resides in the Boro of Sayreville.  Although his roots are not Woodbridge, he has indicated his only interest is producing a winning program here!

 

 

Mike Ortiz  (Linebackers / Running-Backs)

 

This is the first season for Coach Ortiz with the WHS Barrons Program.  Previously, he spent the 2001 and 2002 Football seasons at Weehawken HS as the Linebacker and Running Back Coach. 

 

Ortiz played High School Football at Weehawken HS, and was a Linebacker and a Running Back.  He graduated in 1995.

 

At FDU / Madison, he was an Outside Linebacker.  He was awarded All Conference LB three times, and was a preseason All American as a Senior.  He was also named Team Captain and FDU Defensive Player of the Year his Senior year.  He graduated in 2000.

 

Currently, Coach Ortiz resides in the City of Perth Amboy, so as to be closer to "The Job"!

This is the first season for Mr. McDevitt with the Woodbridge Football Program.

 

In 2003, he was recruited by Coach Russo to manage the statistical data for the Football Program.  He also created and launched www.woodbridgefootball.com that same year.  His area of expertise is Statistics and Web Site management.

 

He is employed by the Township of Woodbridge as a Police Sergeant, and is looking forward to retirement in 2005.

 

Currently, he lives in the Woodbridge Proper section of the Township with his wife Amy and their three sons C.J. (WHS Football 2000, 01, 02, and 03), Thomas (WHS Football 2003) and David.
