The Barrons Sideline:  Game One – These guys came to play!

By: Charles McDevitt

Joe Skibar:  Guided the offense to 292 total yards.  He completed 6 of 16 passes for 136 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT.  On the ground he rushed for 45 yards, including a 22 yards romp on a 3rd and 5 that kept the first scoring drive alive.  Midway through the second quarter, he scored on an 8 yard run, putting Woodbridge ahead 12-0.  Skibar played with poise and seemed very comfortable under center.

Shamar Graves:  Was an impact player on both sides of the ball.  Offensively, Shamar put 105 yards of receiving up, with 57 yards made after the catch.  Included in his catches, was a  67 yard TD reception with 35 YAC.  On one pass thrown his way in the end zone, he made a tremendous one handed leaping catch that the zebras called out of bounds.  On the defensive side, he came up big throughout the game registering big time hits at important moments in the game.  Graves is by far, one of the most athletic members of the Program, and he’s only a junior.

Garrett Mozolic:  This sophomore is the heir apparent to 2003’s Keith Zalasar.  Mo put up 90 yards of total offense on only 15 touches.  He rushed for 78 and a 5.6 yards per carry, and had one reception of 12 yards.  Giving this young man the ball seems to be a good bet.

Derek Shea and Chuck Pierson:  Two sophomores who were pressed into action by Coach Russo.  Pierson, 6’02” -  280, took control of the snapping duties and handled the pressure with relative ease.  On one play, the young sophomore pancaked a would be defender who was penetrating the pocket around Skibar.  Derek Shea, 5’10” - 200,  filled in at the left guard slot.  Like Pierson, Shea’s only previous duties were at the 2003 freshman level.  He seemed to handle the pressure from older, more seasoned defenders with no major problems.  Looks like finding replacements for the departed 2003 senior dominated OL isn’t going to be as big a job as thought.

Although these guys have been singled out for some individual praise, there is only one concept that will ever be accepted in the Woodbridge Football Program, and that is TEAM.  Together, Everyone Achieves More!  We shall live and die as one!
