Shamar Graves Reaches for his Milestone!

With his last catch of the day against Old Bridge, Shamar Graves registered 6 yards receiving.  That yardage put him into a tie for 3rd place all-time with Keith Zalasar at 950 yards receiving.  Last week, he grabbed 14 more yards.  Coming into the November 4th game against East Brunswick, Shamar Graves needs only 36 yards receiving to reach the 1000 yards pass receiving milestone.

Nice number 1000!  There are only two other Barrons that have attained more receiving yards in their HS careers.  Frank Corbo had 1025 yards receiving during his 1979 and 1980 varsity career.  And top dog, Keith Hemmings amassed 1454 receiving yards during his 1996 and 1997 varsity career.

Graves had 2 catches in his sophomore year for 44 yards, 33 catches for 583 yards his junior year, and so far, 20 grabs for 337 yards this season, his senior year.  With only three games remaining in his HS career, Shamar will need 62 yards (20.7 YPG) to pass Mr. Corbo and step into 2nd place all-time, and a very large 491 yards (163.7 YPG) to pass Mr. Hemmings as number 1 all-time.

Shamar Graves, a three year varsity starter, will undoubtedly pass Corbo’s numbers soon.  Passing Hemmings’s record may be a bit more daunting.  Graves will have to have three monster games to step past him.  My money is on Graves and the Barrons running the table with Wins!  Behind the powerful running of Garrett Mozolic, the step up performance by sophomore sensation, QB Anthony Viola, Shamar will get an opportunity to put up some good numbers and maybe, just maybe supplanting 1454.  It will be interesting to watch.
