The Countdown to Win Number 400!

When the Woodbridge HS Football Team takes the field, and wins the 5th game of the upcoming 2005 season, they also will be creating some local history by chalking up the 400th win of the High School’s football program!

In the 81 year football history, the Barrons have registered 395 wins, 303 loses and 40 ties, establishing an overall winning percentage of .562.

Football began in 1915 at WHS, but unfortunately it quickly was cancelled the following year after a player sustaining a serious injury.  Although a photograph of the ’15 Team exists, there is no statistical information about the season records.

Football eventually returned to WHS in 1924, and it is from this point that Dr. Nick Sardone has compiled the statistical history of the program.  He is a diehard Woodbridge HS Football fan and was a close contact of legendary head coach, Nick Priscoe.  Sardone was also instrumental in getting the current home field, renamed “Nick Priscoe Stadium” in 1979.  Without the passion and dedication to the football program by Sardone, a lot of historical data would have been lost.

According to current head coach, Brian Russo, attaining the 5 wins and the 400th overall team victory, is “doable”.  He believes he has the talent to produce a winning team in 2005, and is looking forward to August and the start of practice sessions.  He is also looking forward to the 400th and beyond!

The Woodbridge HS Football season opens in South Brunswick on September 9th at 7pm.
